Citibank Blackmailed for stolen KYC data, Bank gets him behind the bars

Recently Citibank was blackmailed by Sunder Mahal Krishna Rajan, a native of Kalakkadu in Tamil Nadu. This person was blackmailing the bank with filched private customer data. However, this person is now under the custody of Mumbai Police.

This blackmailer was forcing the bank to provide him money and if the bank failed to fulfil his demand he will disclose the KYC data to others. In June, Assistant manager of Citibank got the mail with stated that the sender had a micro SD chip containing 20,000 Citibank account holder’s information, since then the blackmailing started. The sender wrote “"I want to return this data to the bank for a sum. If interested please respond”.

At the demand of the bank representatives, Rajan, the blackmailer provided some data of the customers which he had to authenticate his threat. The amount demanded by him in return of the confidential data was Rs.5 lakhs, however finally he settled for Rs. 1 lakh.

The blackmailer was called at Dahisar to collect the money, where the cyber cell had laid a trap and arrested him.

Citibank partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka raised US $1.5 billion

Citibank became proud partners of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government. This partnering on 11th July, 2016 raised US $1.5 billion in a dual-tranche 5.5 and10 years of international bond offering. This turned out be another breakthrough for Citibank. The initial Price guidance of 5.5 year and 10 year tranche were 6.125% area and 7.125% area respectively. 5.750% for 5.5 year tranche and 6.825% for 10 year tranche were the yield at which the notes were priced at a coupon and re-offer. The 5.5 year as well as 10 year tranche lured orders from around 200 accounts. Huge account orders were attracted because of superior quality institutional accounts globally.

Moody’s Investors Service Standard assigned “B1”rating to the bonds, whereas Poor’s and Fitch ratings rated the bonds “B+”. Since 2007, this has been the first time, when the Republic’s tenth U.S. dollar benchmark offering in the international bond markets.
